Days after actress Tanushree Dutta's sexual harassment allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar created a whirlwind, a gamut of stars like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Vir Das and Anurag Kashyap have spoken out strongly in support of the former beauty queen and a safer working environment for women.
Tanushree had first raised the allegation against the actor in 2008. She brought the spotlight once again on her unpleasant experience of working with Nana during the shooting of "Horn 'Ok' Pleassss", in a recent interview.
Nana, on Thursday, denied all allegations and said, "What can I do about what one says? You tell me. What does it mean by sexual harassment."
Farhan Akhtar, who has been a part of social campaigns supporting women, re-tweeted a string of posts by an eyewitness about the details of Tanushree's ordeal. Priyanka Chopra echoed the sentiments by tweeting, “The world needs to believe survivors.”
While Tanushree is happy that several Bollywood stars and even an international celebrity like Priyanka have joined her in this fight against predators in the Bollywood industry, she wasn’t quite pleased with Chopra’s choice of words. According to an online report, the actress said that although it was “amazing” that Priyanka decided to join the fight, she wanted everyone to know that she was not going to be “reduced to a survivor”. Saying that she had a name and a story, Tanushree claimed that she was not doing this for herself, but for the many others who will come forward in the generations to come.
Nonetheless, she thanked all those who are “genuinely supporting” her and tweeting out in her support.
